Home health aides (HHAs) - also known as personal care aides (PCAs) - do the essential work of hands-on care for patients. Patients are often elderly, but some home health aides work in rehab centers as exercise assistants, with people with intellectual disabilities, and more. The work may include mobility assistance, assistance with self-administered medications, cleaning in patient areas, household chores for clients at home, health monitoring, skin care, bathing, grooming, feeding, and much more.
The home health aide certificate is a versatile credential across the state of Florida. It is the standard for home health agencies, but also an opening for working in non-medical eldercare, home hospice, hospice in-patient units, personal care homes, assisted living facilities, and more. Home health aides often use their experience to start their own personal care agencies or go further in the nursing career. In our region, pay ranges from $18 to $33 per hour. Here and nationwide, HHA pay is increasing almost 50% faster than the rate of inflation.
We conduct as many as two training courses per month, with as few as eight students per course. We start each new class as soon as we have enough enrollees. The White Glove Home Health Aide Training Program consists of 75 hours of training. That includes classroom, lab, and internship hours with actual patients. After successful completion of a final exam, including a skills competency practical, students will receive a Home Health Aide Certificate good throughout the state of Florida. The White Glove program is specifically designed to meet the 75-hour, federal training requirements (42 CFR 484.80), making the certificate valid for employment in many other states as well.
